The web site listed in the "paid for" box is https://www.articlefour.org/ It doesn't show who provides the grants that they hand out to mess with state voting systems. Or who pays for the "hands-on support to local, state-led campaigns and policy initiatives..." and what that support looks like. There are no names on that web site of the people promoting this radical revolution that seeks to undermine and overturn our self-governance. Secret money will support popularity contests unconnected to policy in a much more absolute way than the current 2-party system.
Great article, Chris! You took the words right out of my mouth. As a vet, I am incensed about the false advertising of that clown's campaign regarding vets. We are all smart enough to know that it's up to us as individuals to operate within the current system if we wish to engage in politics. We don't need a California system installed here. How's that working out for the Californians? I fled there after decades because the place is lost.
Although I lived in the "Pro-America" Northern California part of the state (Placer County), it started turning purple with the influx of Bay Area liberals who brought their dumbass socialist beliefs with them to our Red counties!
In 2010 we were on the short end of the vote which confirmed "ranked choice" voting and immediately started researching a few states between the Left Coast and Mississippi.
There are other reasons we left such as the "High Speed Train to Nowhere" which started with an initial cost of $9B....which today has ballooned to $102B as of this year....AND THAT'S JUST FOR,PHASE 1!!!!!
Add to that the corruption AND COLLECTIVE STUPIDITY - of MOST members of the state legislature was certainly helping in the decision to leave. It is a tax-happy bunch that doesn't seem to care about the number of businesses and people are leaving for more tax and friendly government environments.
So when these current CA electeds leave office, where are the revenues going to come from for their pensions?????
I digress!!!!!
So with regards to these ads, one of them IS DEFINITELY A LIE regarding veterans and Independents not being able to fully participate in the process. That has been answered by you and Mr. Larson.
Veterans are not stupid.....and yeah, I won't include my usual Navy insult for Marines!
it's actually a Nebraska system--it was passed by a ballot initiative in NE in 1936, and was adamantly opposed by both political parties, and yet it passed by a margin of 60%-40%! Why, because people wanted to escape the closed partisan primaries restrictions that kept them from voting in primaries for the candidates that they wanted. And you know what, it's been in place for almost 90 years, and there has never been a serious move to go back to the old system--people there like it, and so will South Dakotans when we implement it here!
Drey, this is South Dakota. We don't care how they do it "in Nebraska", or California, or Washington state. We like our current system, where regular folks with no allegiance or ties to any special interests or big business can simply run for the legislature to represent their district, with a fairly reasonable budget of $10k or less. If H passes, the cost to run will skyrocket, which will eliminate the Grassroots candidates. Which is the primary goal of the H campaign, as we all know, and as Dave Knutson admitted at the Rotary speech. You remember, you were standing next to him.
You saved me time, Chris. I lived in CA for years and watched it go to crap with open primaries and ballot harvesting. The Nebraska yarn is a fairy tale spun by those who would relegate the people for whom they shed crocodile tears to spectator seats and worse. Their deception was totally revealed in that mailer sent claiming that we vets are left out by the current system. A bald-faced lie.
My wife got a mailer today with the guy veteran on the front with his mouth taped. I sent them an online email regarding my disgust as a veteran and their lies! I ended the email telling them to stay the "blankety blank" out of our state!
You are absolutely correct, Chris.

I looked up that site as well looking for further info. Interesting on the work they're doing on Montana!
Is this their dirty deed in Montana? https://www.krtv.com/news/montana-politics/what-are-montana-constitutional-initiatives-126-and-127

So my response here is a loud " H No!"

Many vets are very upset by their ploy. Understandably so!

Hubby is a Navy vet. I was greatly offended by this piece in the mail - he laughed and tossed it aside. F Yes, No on the Rest!
SOMEHOW.....I AM NOT SURPRISED!!!!!
Hey Buddy!
